Fabulous Flax - The Rich Nutrients In Flax

Flax oil and flax (also known as linseed) seeds have become rediscovered as genuine health nutrients. They unquestionably deserve being admitted in any top-ten listing of nutrients that are healthy. Flax isn't a brand-new nutrient. It is in reality among the older and, maybe, among the groundbreaking "wellness foods," cherished due to its therapeutic attributes throughout the Romanist Empire. Flax was among innovative medications employed by Hippocrates.

Flax may be nicknamed the "unnoticed oil." It has been diminished due to oil makers having discovered wholesome oils to be less rewarding from a profit point of view. The selfsame nutriments that flax generates in nutritional advantages - crucial fatty acids - likewise afford it a poor shelf life, causing it to be costlier to develop, ship, and store on shelves.
However, those who are nutritional experts recognize the need to keep ranking flax high up on the list of essential foods. Due to the bustle of technological fields of study confirming the wellness benefits of omega-3s, flax oil has progressed from the icebox of "wellness food enthusiasts" to a position of scientific reputability.

A tablespoonful of flax oil or 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal should become a daily habit. In addition to being the most beneficial origin of omega 3's, flax oil is an effective source of omega-6 fatty acid, or linolic acid (LA). Safflower, sunflower, and sesame oils are more outstanding sources of omega 6 fatty acids however, they don't incorporate any omega-3 fatty acids. Flax oil comprises 45 to 60 percent of the omega-3 fatty acid alphalinolenic acid (ALA).

Along with wholesome fats, flax seeds carry additional nutriments which make consuming the entire seed superior instead of eating only the distilled oil:
1. Flax seeds are comprised of high caliber protein.
2. Flax seeds are abundant in water-soluble fiber. The combining of the oil and the fiber causes flaxseeds to be an ideal laxative.
3. Flax seeds bear vitamins B-1, E, carotene, B-2, and C. These seeds also incorporate zinc, iron, as well as trace quantities of phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, carotene, and vitamin E, two nutriments that assist the metabolic process from the oil.
4. Flax seeds carry more than a hundredfold additional phytonutrient, called lignin, than any of its most proximate contenders, like wheat berry bran, rye, millet, buckwheat, oats, and soy. Lignins have gotten more press due to potential anti-cancer attributes, particularly in regard to breast and colon cancer. Lignins appear to kick excessive estrogen hormones from the body, thereby abbreviating the relative incidence of estrogen-linked cancers, like breast cancer.

In addition to anti-tumor properties, lignins also look to deliver antibacterial, antifungal agents, and antiviral agents. Linseeds, because they comprise some protein, vitamins and minerals, fiber, and lignins, they are more nourishing than their oils. Even so, for useful intentions, many consumers favor utilizing the oil for its omega-3s and not being forced to hassle with crunching the seeds.
However nutritionally speaking, it's worthy of the bother to mill new linseeds (like in a coffee grinder) and scatter them as a flavoring with cereals, salads, or blend them into biscuits and muffins.
While purchasing seeds, make certain they are intact, not split; breaking the open brings out the inside seed to the light and warmth and diminishes the nutritionary rate. Or, purchase pre-ground linseeds, accessible as flaxseed meal. Just one ounce of linseed meal (about 4 tbsp.) will generate approximately 8 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein.

8 Great Breakfast Ideas For People With Wheat Intolerance

Even if you have wheat intolerance, you can still have an effortless and guilt-free breakfast. You want to start your day off right, but you don't want to have to eat wheat to do it. These 8 breakfast ideas will have you waking up each morning actually looking forward to a new day!
Breakfast Idea #1: Omelets
This is one breakfast classic that doesn't belong on anyone's wheat intolerance "forbidden list". Grab some eggs (or egg whites), and mix in tomatoes, bell peppers, and onions. Pour it on a hot pan, fold the omelet, and you've got yourself a scrumptious gluten free breakfast!

Breakfast Idea #2: Gluten-Free Cereal
Although most breakfast cereals have gluten, there are many that don't. You have to be very diligent about label reading or call the manufacturer to be 100% sure.
Many organic cereal brands, like Nature's Path and Whole Earth, make cereal that is 100% gluten free. There are also specialty companies that produce gluten-free cereal made just for people with wheat intolerance.
The best part is that they taste great! They range from super-healthy crispy rice to indulgent frosted flakes.
Breakfast Idea #3: Fruit
As you already know, fruit is naturally gluten free. The best breakfast fruits are blueberries, strawberries, melons, bananas, and grapefruit. Fruit alone isn't' the most filling breakfast, so it's best used as a side.
Breakfast Idea #4: Gluten Free Toast
There are dozens of gluten free breads on the market today. Pick your favorite, throw it in the toaster, top with butter or peanut butter, and presto: toast is back in your life!
Breakfast Idea #5: Yogurt
Many flavored yogurts contain gluten, so it's best to go with the plain variety. To add yummy flavor, you can mix in frozen fruit, some honey and top with gluten-free cereal.

Breakfast Idea #6: Pancakes
Sure, most pancakes are made from wheat flour, but it doesn't have to be that way! To make an amazing gluten free pancake, just substitute wheat flour with rice flour, tapioca flour, or brown rice flour. Most classic pancake ingredients are gluten free, so this is actually the only change you need to make.
Breakfast Idea #6: French Toast
This is another traditional breakfast food that doesn't have to be sacrificed just because you have wheat intolerance. Combine the wet ingredients (eggs, milk, vanilla extract, nutmeg) like you normally would and let gluten free bread slices soak it up. To cook, throw the bread on a hot greased pan.

Breakfast Idea #7: Bacon
A real breakfast favorite! Most bacon is gluten free, although some companies use gluten as filler. This is another case where you have to check the ingredients label before giving it a go.
Breakfast Idea #8: Porridge
Porridge is great for staving off an appetite until lunchtime. Although oats are generally not advised for those with wheat intolerance, other grains like buckwheat and millet work just as well for porridge.

The Benefits Of Seaweed: Its Vitamins And Importance To Your Overall Health

Today, many of us have eaten seaweed in one form or another. However, you might be surprised to find out how many vitamins it offers and how vital they are for our general health. Seaweed also has an abundance of minerals, but I'll cover that in another article. For now, lets see what vitamins seaweed offers us and the impact it has on our overall health.

Vitamin A
  • Cell Growth, Repair, and Immunity - Helps your body fight illness from viruses and bacteria. It strengthens areas of your body which are vulnerable to them such as the mucous membranes near the eyes and nose which is how viruses and bacteria can enter your body which can lead to illness.
  • Vision and Eye Health - Helps fight against glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts, along with other illnesses of the eyes which you may become vulnerable to as you get older.
  • Cancer - Is considered to be a strong antioxidant and is thought to prevent development of certain varieties of cancer and pulmonary diseases.
  • Bones - Since Vitamin A plays a significant part in the growth of new cell tissue, it also helps ensure bone health by replacing damaged tissue. It also helps the formation of dentin on your teeth.
  • Prevention of Urinary Stones - Vitamin A creates a mineral called calcium phosphate that prevents solid particles from forming within your body. These particles can form stones and can cause vomiting and pain.
  • Helps to Maintain Healthy Skin - Vitamin A is an antioxidant. Free radicals damage the skin, which is why antioxidants are important in maintaining healthy skin. It will protect it from wrinkling, pimples, dryness, and psoriasis.

Vitamin B1
Is also commonly known as Thiamine or Thiamin. B1 is important for maintaining a healthy nervous system. In addition it will help to convert the food you eat everyday into energy your body uses to function.
Vitamin B2
Also known as Riboflavin. Vitamin B2 also helps convert food into energy. As a matter of fact, every B vitamin aids in the conversion of food into energy. However, B2 is also responsible for breaking down fats and proteins. In addition it helps in the production of hormones and helps red blood cells to stay healthy.
Vitamin B3
Is typically known as Niacin. It also helps in converting food into energy like all the B vitamins. It's also responsible for helping your nervous system to continue functioning properly, assists in maintaining a healthy digestive system and assists in blood circulation.

Vitamin B6
Helps prevent heart disease, aids in the production of antibodies to fight infection, viruses and bacteria. Like B3, it assists in the maintenance of your nervous system. It also assists in keeping red blood cells healthy. Similar to many of the B vitamins, it also converts food to energy.
Vitamin B-12
Is also known as Cobalamin. B-12 is known to assist in preventing heart disease, strengthen the immune system, keep red blood cells healthy and like all the B vitamins we've mentioned, it assists in converting food to energy.
Vitamin C
Is another vitamin that has a host of positive affects on your health. There's also evidence that it helps to raise good cholesterol generally known as HDL. HDL helps to eliminate fatty deposits from arteries, which reduces the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. It's also an antioxidant like Vitamin A. It also promotes strong teeth and bones, healthy skin and gums, helps wounds to heal and strengthens blood vessels.

Vitamin D
Aids in bone growth, strength and also helps to strengthen teeth. It also boosts the activity of the natural killer cells in your body. These cells are responsible for targeting other cells that are infected by viruses. Vitamin D also plays a role in the rejection of tumors. It also helps lower cholesterol. Low levels of Vitamin D can lead to increased blood pressure and increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
Vitamin E
Is known as an antioxidant like Vitamins A and C. It protects cells from the negative affects of free radicals. It can help to strengthen the immune system. It also helps create red blood cells. In addition it widens blood vessels, which prevent blood clots.
We take vitamins for granted, but they're vital to the proper functioning of our bodies. As you can see, seaweed has an abundance of them. Maybe it's time you thought about including it in your diet more often?

Switching To Plant-Based Eating Is Not As Hard As You Think

A healthy plant-based diet is not really all that different from a healthy omnivorous diet. If you are thinking about transitioning to a plant-based diet or wanting to incorporate more plant-based food into your nutrition, it's much easier than you may think.

A healthy diet, whether you eat only plants or combine plants with meat, consists of a healthy emphasis on fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, beans and legumes. Even those who call themselves vegetarians or vegans can eat unhealthy by not choosing the best plants to eat. For example, pizza and ice cream (for those who eat dairy) are vegetarian foods, but they are not healthy choices. Structuring your nutrition properly is important, and the basis of that should be around whole natural foods.

The largest difference between an omnivorous diet (one that contains meat) and a plant-based diet is where your protein is coming from. Other than that, 80% of the diet is going to be the same (because that's what everyone should be focusing on). Many people eat meat 2-3 times per day. The best place to start is to limit your meat consumption to 2-3 times per week.
The biggest myth in eating a plant-based diet is that you do not get enough protein since you are not eating meat. There are plenty of ways to get great protein sources from plant-based foods. The one food that has the most protein you will find is tempeh (soy protein). One cup of tempeh has as much as 41 grams of protein, more than you will typically find in a steak. One cup of lentils has as much as 18 grams of protein, kidney beans have as much as 13 grams. Chick peas are another one, which have up to 12 grams in one cup. Nuts are also a great choice. A quarter cup of almonds have up to 8 grams of protein; a quarter cup of sunflower seeds has 6 grams of protein. You may be surprised to learn that even broccoli has protein in it! One cup of cooked broccoli has four grams of protein.

Protein is in almost anything that is a whole natural food. Many people only count animal protein in their protein grams, but you can actually get more protein from a plant-based diet than you can with a meat-based diet. Supplements are also available in powder form where you can add your protein to something like a smoothie. Some great ones to start off trying are brown rice protein and hemp protein.

Challenge yourself to begin this process of switching to a plant-based diet by watching where your food is coming from over the next week. 80% of your diet should come from natural sources (not processed foods). As Michael Pollan made popular in his book, "Food Rules," if it's made in a plant don't eat it, but if it is a plant you should eat it.

5 Tips To Help Stop Sugar Cravings And Start Losing Weight

One of the most difficult challenges to deal with when you start losing weight is stop sugar cravings. Sugar is very addictive and the more you eat the more you want. Here are 5 ways to help you stop sugar sugar cravings and start losing weight.

Trying to stop sugar cravings is one of the most challenging things to deal with when you start losing weight. Sugar is addictive and the more you have the more you want. It triggers pleasure points in the brain and leads to the production of endorphins and serotonin that makes us feel good when we eat it. But sugar is calorie heavy and if we eat too much of it we will put on weight, not lose it.

1. Substitute The Bad For The Good.
Your mind and body can't distinguish where sugar comes from. One way to stop sugar cravings that you get from of desserts, pastries or candy is to give your body healthy natural sugars like fruit. It is a great thing to eat when you want something sweet and it also delivers many other natural vitamins and nutrients as well.

2. Don't Miss Meals.
One of the worst things you can do to stop sugar cravings is to make yourself hungry. When you start losing weight it may seem like a good idea to miss out meals, but in the end, it just makes you hunger for those fast sugars found in sweets and cakes. Ensure that you eat healthy and nutritious meals and if you want a snack, go for healthy options like nuts, fruit or vegetables.

3. Exercise Regularly.
Exercise programs make your body releases chemicals called endorphins which drastically and quickly make you feel happier and healthier, much more than a sugar rush from a chocolate bar. Even just taking a short walk when you feel yourself starting to crave something sweet to eat can help. Being outside and away from tempting sugarly foods will help you control your craving.

4. Stress And Emotional Eating.
The feel good factor that you get from sugars make them very tempting to eat when you feel upset or stressed. You do need to manage what is causing these feelings. Managing your emotions can go a long way to stop sugar cravings and help you towards your healthy living weight loss goals.

5. Reward Yourself.
When you start losing weight, positive reinforcement is a great way to keep your diet plans on the right track. Instead of eating that big piece of chocolate cake as a reward, try treating yourself to different things to help stop sugar cravings. They can be simple things like watching your favorite TV show or a movie or more significant things like a new outfit or a day out with friends at a spa.

5 Reasons Why Greek Yogurt Is Good For Your Health

Many people think that yogurt is just the foreign name for curd. But that is not the case. Yogurt and its benefits are very different than that of curd. It actually is extremely beneficial for human body. Although curd and yogurt are both made from milk, both products are different. Let’s take a look at how exactly they are different.

Yogurt vs. Curd

Both the dairy products are made from milk, but the process differs. To make curd you have to boil the milk and cool it down to 30 degree celsius. Then you can add either lemon juice or vinegar to the milk. These acidic substances include a microorganism named as ‘lactobacillus’. The lactic acid curdles the milk and splits it into two parts, the solids and liquid. The solid which is extracted is the curd. The liquid part is called whey, which contains whey proteins and the curd contains milk proteins. Once separated the curd can be flavoured with sugars, salts, etc.

Yogurt is made by adding a different set of bacteria known as ‘Yogurt Cultures’. Yogurt cultures include two different strains of bacteria namely ‘lactobacillus bulgaris’ and ‘streptococcus thermophilous’. The addition of bacteria ensures quality of product because they make it homogenized. This dairy product also can be enhanced by the addition of different flavours.

Benefits of Yogurt

Hence the da helps to avoid or cure diseases like constipation, diarrhoea, etc.
  • Boosts immunity system:

As yogurt provides vitamin D to the body and the nutrient is said to provide antibacterial proteins to the body, we can say that it helps to enhance the immunity system.

As the digestive system improves, it keeps away bowel related diseases. And thus, it is said that probiotics keep our stomach immune from various diseases. A daily serving of the product also helps you to keep the cold away.
